our story

OUR STORY
A group of local businessmen who were forced to grow up and get real jobs, remained bonded by surfing together before and after work. This loosely organized group of mid-life dudes jokingly referred to themselves as “The Executive Surf Club”. Brad Lomax, a restaurateur and member of this club, used the spirit of this group as inspiration for a concept honoring surf culture and beach lifestyle. The “executive” title of this club is fully tongue-in-cheek as these self loathing capitalists stare out their office windows longing for the beach.
What began as a concept intended to merge all things rad about living on the Texas gulf coast, the Surf Club has since secured its spot as an iconic live music venue and hangout in South Texas. Located on Chaparral Street in Corpus Christi Texas the Executive Surf Club is the perfect spot to grab a casual meal, listen to the best in live local music, or simply enjoy the Coast! Known by artists and live music junkies, locals and visitors, the intimate and salty atmosphere of the Executive Surf Club encompasses all of the reasons we love where we live.

LIVE MUSIC

live music
When this concept was launched in 1990, the original team understood they wanted to offer live music as an amenity but had no idea it would catch fire to the extent it did. The stars aligned between the musical scene talent of the original management team and the demand for a venue south of San Antonio for acts to add a stop on their tours.
During this pre-digital golden era of live music the “Surf Club” emerged as one of the premier venues in the State of Texas. Musical Acts ranging from 60's Surf Guitar group "The Ventures" to punk rock icons "The Dead Kennedys" have played the outdoor stage. In 1997 "The Red Elvises" from Russia brought post Cold War rock-and-roll to a crowd of Corpus Christi capitalists and conjunto pioneer "Flaco Jimenez" captivated a sold out house here in 2003. The late and loved Texas singer/songwriter "Townes Van Zandt" said goodbye to the Coastal Bend from our patio and the Surf Club proudly hosted the final concert performed by Tejano music legend "Isido Lopez" before his death in 2004.
"What began as a summer job in 1995 turned into a nearly nine-year journey. At the time, the steady flow of incredible talent passing through the Executive Surf Club felt normal—but in hindsight, it was a truly magical era….The Executive Surf Club played a vital role in connecting Corpus Christi to the Texas music circuit."
-Casey Lain, founder of House of Rock
We have packed the little surf bar with countless other legendary acts like Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Robison, Blue October, Miranda Lambert, Guy Clark, Junior Brown, etc. With an active and long running Open Mike program the Executive Surf Club encourages and promotes local musical talent and often serves as a stepping stone venue for talented performers on their way up the ladder to regional and national fame. In 2023 our dear friend came down and agreed to christen the hallowed stage the "Robert Earl Keen Singers & Songwriters Stage".
